Marcel Hanakam is Managing Director at the Hamburg Institute. He also manages the business at the Averdung Group of Companies and Megawatt Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, based in Berlin.
Marcel Hanakam studied industrial engineering with a focus on energy supply in Cottbus and Tampere (Finland). With the introduction of the European Emissions Trading Scheme, Marcel Hanakam advised companies on the implementation of the new regulations and eventually moved to RWE Power AG, where he was involved in the purchase of certificates for CDM/JI project contracts.
The desire to exert a practical and, above all, sustainable influence on the energy turnaround led Marcel Hanakam to the Averdung Group, where he set up the “Industry” and “Emissions Trading” departments as divisional manager and was quickly appointed to the management board. With the aim of optimally combining consulting and implementation, Marcel Hanakam also took over the construction management for pioneering renewable energy projects at Averdung.
In 2018, Marcel Hanakam was additionally entrusted with the management of Megawatt Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH. Megawatt GmbH advises companies and political committees in the capital Berlin on topics relating to the energy and heat transition and translates these into concepts and concrete planning.
In July 2022, Marcel Hanakam was appointed Managing Director of the Hamburg Institute.
Marcel Hanakam: “The Hamburg Institute is a leader in research and consulting on pioneering energy and heating projects. It has done groundbreaking work in the past. With innovative research, critical consideration of political framework conditions and questioning of the status quo, we drive the energy and heat transition. Combining this with my practical experience from planning and implementing projects, we will be able to speed up.”
