Robert Werner is one of the founders of Hamburg Institut. Prior to this, the graduate geographer spent ten years working in the renewable energy sector as a board member and managing director. His professional experience includes company formation and development, electricity and gas procurement and distribution, the construction and financing of wind, hydro and photovoltaic power plants, and the storage industry. He gained his knowledge of the energy scene in the USA during his time as CEO of a start-up for storage technologies. Robert Werner has been familiar with and analysing national and European energy policy for over 25 years and is a passionate debater on this topic at panel discussions and events. After completing his studies, he initially worked as a management consultant and advisor on energy taxes and energy policy, as well as a research assistant at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Mannheim.
He is also managing director of greenmiles GmbH, a subsidiary of the Hamburg Institute specialising in climate accounting and climate risk analysis.
Robert Werner is a member of the Advisory Board of dena-Marktoffensive and of the Association Council of the Genossenschaftlicher Prüfungsverband für Dienstleistung, Immobilien und Handel e. V. (Cooperative Auditing Association for Services, Real Estate and Trade).
